Mechanisms and effects of decadal climate variability
Researching natural climate variability on decade time scales. Do mechanistic modes exist on this time scale or is the observed variability essentially red noise. What mechanisms may be at play on these time scales and how do we reliably extract modes from climate data. Can modern state space models and unsupervised/semi-supervised machine learning methods perform better than the established methods.

The climate is changing because of us. Political action and court cases require good scientific knowledge and attribution studies. Climate variability is a complicating attributing factor.
