Cloud development is much to do with the propagation of the Indian monsoon itself. However, it is poorly understood and modelled at present, and these errors feedback onto the monsoon winds, further worsening the forecast. This project will use a mix of radar observations and later on the Met Office Unified Model in order to better understand the relationship between cloud development on small spatial scales, and the large-scale environment.
I enjoy spending time grappling with research questions that we don't have a clear answer to yet, and have always been fascinated in particular by tropical weather. The variety that comes with doing a PhD is also very stimulating, with independent research alongside research group meetings, seminars and departmental social activities.
