BloodBorne Pathogen Exposure Training
BloodBorne Pathogen Exposure Training – For students enrolled in the Master of Science degree programs in the Creative Arts Therapy the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has determined that some workers face a significant health risk as the result of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. While the College does not feel that student clinicians face a high risk, the College does feel that information regarding bloodborne pathogens is critical to professionals working with children and young adults. If you are enrolling in an internship, clinic, practicum experience, you must attend a bloodborne pathogen exposure training within a course of your program of study or through your employer. Students enrolled in the MS degree programs of CAT will undergo bloodborne pathogen exposure training as an established procedure of the internship/clinic site.
As regulated by OSHA, this training must take place on a yearly basis. If a student has already participated in bloodborne pathogen exposure training through his or her employer within the twelve months prior to the internship, clinic, or practicum experience, then the student must obtain from his/her employer a letter to the CAT Department Clinic File that gives the specific date when training took place.
Any student not trained will be removed from active participation in the clinic/practicum setting.
Clinical Placement Mandatory Drug Testing
Your clinical placement may require the following to be completed prior to commencing your placement: drug testing, TB, fingerprinting, immunities, to name a few, etc. These clinical placement requirements are variable and outside of the control of Nazareth University and the Creative Arts Therapy Department. Failure to meet these clinical placement requirements of your clinical site may impact your ability to be at that placement.
