Clinical Training
Clinical Training
To begin the clinical training sequence in the Art Therapy program, students must earn a grade of B or higher in PSY 535: Principles and Techniques of Counseling.
As part of your clinical training, you will be required to plan and document your sessions using a variety of clinical assignments. These planning and documentation requirements are essential components of your training and will be outlined in each clinical course. You are expected to manage your time effectively and submit all documentation accurately and on time. Clinical documentation submitted after the deadline stated in the course syllabus, or as set by clinical placements (i.e. clinical supervisors, clinical managers), will impact your overall course grade. More than two late submissions will result in a Level One Meeting with faculty to address the concern.
Each semester, all required documentation must be submitted to both your clinical instructor and the Art Therapy Internship Coordinator. During your final semester, a complete record of clinical documentation from all semesters must be submitted to the Internship Coordinator, who will confirm receipt of all materials.
Students must receive a grade of B or higher in ATR 501, ATR 502, ATR 506, and ATR 508 in order to pass. A grade of B reflects the minimum required competency level needed to advance to the next stage of clinical training. Any grade below a B will result in the need to repeat the course.
You will also be granted access to a shared Google document to track your accumulated clinical contact hours. This document must be kept up to date, signed by your supervisor, and shared with both the Clinic Manager and the Internship Coordinator to monitor your progress toward the required 700 clinical hours. Maintaining accurate records is essential to ensuring timely program completion and eligibility for certification and licensure.
