Confidentiality Agreement
Confidentiality Agreement
One important factor in therapy and learning about therapy is understanding the concept of confidentiality. Confidentiality means that what is said in the context of the group, i.e. classroom or therapy group, stays within the group. In addition this means, “The following actions are strictly forbidden:
Communicating confidential or protected information about any other person, be they classmates, friends, relatives, faculty, or actual patients. Removal of an individual’s name does not constitute proper de-identification of protected health information. Furthermore, inclusion of data such as age, gender, race, or date of evaluation may still allow the reader to recognize the identity of a specific individual.
Reporting private academic information of another student. Such information might include, but is not limited to: course grades, evaluations, examination scores, or adverse academic actions.
Presenting yourself or acting as an official representative or spokesperson for Nazareth University or the Creative Arts Therapy Department.
Engaging in any relationship with current or former clients, students, interns, trainees, supervisees, employees, or colleagues that are exploitative by its nature or effect (ATCB 2.3.1).
You may not utilize websites and/or applications in a manner that interferes with your academic, clinical, or internship commitments. This includes the use of such sites, applications, and/or text messaging in the context of classes or programs.
Reporting class information, class discussion and/or information related to clinical placements through social media websites, applications, or on any external electronic media page.
If these policies are violated, this is cause for dismissal from the class, the course, and/or the program”
Confidentiality provides an environment that supports meaningful, intimate sharing and self-disclosure, which is essential to group process and personal healing. If group members discuss the experiences of the other group members outside the group, the process will be interrupted or damaged.
Although this program is about teaching about how to be a creative arts therapist and not therapy, there will be many instances when participants will share material, i.e. client information or self-disclosure, in the classroom that needs to stay in the classroom. In addition, in the practicum experiences where you will be doing therapy with clients, it is imperative that you respect their confidentiality. So, in both cases, confidentiality needs to be maintained.
Therefore, this is a Confidentiality Agreement to ensure that you are informed of the concept and understand the importance to your clients, your peers, and your instructors.
