David O McKay said: " True education does not consist merely in the acquiring of a few facts of science, history, literature, or art, but in the development of character." I want to lead in example and show my learners how they should treat others, with kindness and compassion. I want to inspire my learners to: be creative, take leadership, communicate their feelings, have confidence, to be patient with their peers, to have passion for what they do, to be proud and to act with integrity. I will inspire my learners by being all of these things myself.
I see myself as the type of teacher that will sacrifice herself to be able to be the best version I can be for my learners, when I say sacrifice, I mean working until late at night to prepare for the day`s lessons, staying in at break times and after school to help the learners that struggle, if my help is necessary. I want to address all learning barriers and help my learners overcome their barriers. I want to be an inclusive teacher and accommodate all of my learners.
I want to give my learners a proper foundation to be able to build on, later in their lives. I will encourage my learners to be successful and to chase their dreams. I want to be my learner`s support system, when they have no one, and help them wherever I can. My ultimate goal is to help learners achieve everything they are capable of and to be who they are in my classroom. I want to create a safe space for all my learners.
I will teach Grades ranging from Grade R to Grade3. The subjects for these grades are: Life Skills, Home language, First Additional Language and Mathematics.
I will measure the effectiveness of my teachings by analyzing my classroom artifacts and portfolios. I will also examine learner evaluations (tests, orals, etc.) and principal evaluations. When receiving visits in my classroom I will take all recommendations into account. I will also be aware of how my learners participate in the classroom and based on these observations, I will adapt if necessary. (Little, Goe, & Bell, 2009)
I will encourage my learners to play and incorporate play into my lesson to make the lessons enjoyable for the learners. I will integrate my lessons with life skills topics to involve my learners more in the teachings itself. Benjamin Franklin said: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." I will make my learners a part of all my lessons, so that they can learn by being present and involved in my teachings.
