English Home Language
This lesson starts with playing the "ch" song from the phonics app to the learners, then teaching the song to the learners and having them sing along. The learners then do a shared reading activity. The "ch" -sound is then linked to the learners personal experience. This is done by using "ch' -words they know, such as Checkers and Chomp. As conclusion a flashcard activity is used. There is 4 groups that each have their own activities based on their abilities.
In this video the consonant- "ch" is done with the learners. In the video the learners have to sound out the words and explain what each word mean (hat). The teacher then adds a letter and the word changes meaning (chat), it is explained that when two letters are added it sometimes changes how the sound is pronounced (ch). This is then repeated with hair that becomes chair, this is done to test the learners understanding.
Afrikaans Home Language (Observation lesson)
This lesson focused on the consolidation of the "o" sound. In the introduction of the lesson I put up o-words on the board with pictures and the learners had to sound the words. I then explained the worksheet to the learners and took the focus group on the mat, where I did a word building activity with them.
