This reflective essay discuss how I saw the teacher use the CAPS document and how she took what is prescribed in CAPS and made it her own. I also address possible challenges schools can face as well as challenges I saw while being at school, I give possible solutions to these problems.
Reflection of year
I did my teaching practice at the same school I did my observations. I had a lovely mentor teacher that taught me a lot and gave me the worlds confidence when it comes to teaching. My mentor teacher left me with the learners and felt confidant that I could handle the learners almost on a daily basis. My mentor teacher was vice principal and had appointments and meetings on a daily basis, as well as classroom visits in other classes and she entrusted her learners to me.
While being out on teaching practice I learned the important lesson of being consequent with my learners. I noticed that sometimes my mentor teacher would tell the learners that if they misbehave they won`t get break time and she never enforced that rule, in turn the learners were unruly sometimes. The teachers assistant was consequent and the learners listened to her.
With the confidence I gained from doing my teaching practice in this mentor teachers class. I can now stand in front of any class and not feel as panicked as I felt before this teaching practice. I feel like this teaching practice covered the gap I felt with regards to the lack of practical experiences that I didn`t get in my education because of the pandemic.
