Observation lesson plan
In this lesson I do place value, number value as well as value with my learners. I start the lesson with mental math and then I do a fun activity where I ask the learner to change numbers using the pull tabs. I then go through the PowerPoint and video with the learners. I then explain the worksheets to the learners and they have to do the worksheet while I take groups on the mat.
Teaching practice lessons
I start this lesson of by going through 2D shapes and their characteristics. The learners must identify what the shape is and pick the appropriate name. I then take out the 3D models and ask the learner which 2D shapes they can identify in the 3D model. I then divide the class into three groups, each group receives a bag full of 3D shapes we get in our daily lives. The learners must identify the 3D shapes and write how much of each they got. The groups give feedback on what they saw. The learners then get worksheets for their respective ability group.
Mathematics assignments
This assignment discusses the following methods: imitative practice, drill practice and learner interaction with Mathematical content. While discussion these methods I also link the methods to real-life scenarios that I experienced while being out on observation.
The following cognitive processes that learners work through in Mathematical investigations will be discussed thoroughly: specialisation, generalisation, conjecture, justification and classifications. Examples of each is also included.
Mathematics Presentation
In the following assignment we discuss the learning and teaching of Mathematics in the Foundation Phase. We discuss the following concepts: Mathematics content knowledge and the importance of it, Pedagogical content knowledge and the importance, the role of the teacher in cultivating inquisitive and accepting minds and the vital role this plays, teaching strategies, error analysis and barriers to learning in Mathematics in the Foundation phase.
