We are so excited for you to be joining us at LBHS this coming August!
In preparation for the start of your high school career, we first Pre-Register you for your core courses and know what electives you are most interested in exploring. No class placements are ever guaranteed, but our School Counselors work throughout the spring and summer to ensure all 2900+ of our students get schedules that put them on a path to earn their diploma and be ready for life beyond high school.
You should have received a personalized letter from your current school counselor. If you did not, please reach out to them directly for more information.
On the back of the letter is a table that gives you the following:
Pre-Registration – The English, Math, and Science class you are Pre-Registered for based on your performance in Semester 1 of this year and assessment data from last Spring
Please note:
All 9th Graders take Pre-AP English 1 Honors at LBHS
Pre-Registration is based on years of data-informed scheduling and an understanding of the rigors of the courses as they’re taught at LBHS
Pre-Registration is not set in stone – you will have the opportunity to revise what is Pre-Registered
Elective and Alternate Course Request – Planning Space for you to use to identify your 3 Elective Course preferences, as well as 3 Alternates
There are only a handful of actions we need from you to help us plan a schedule that meets your needs.
Step 1: Review this Curriculum Guide.
We recommend starting with reviewing the Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2029
Step 2: Review your Pre-Registered Courses on the back of your letter.
Step 3: Use the Planning Space to identify your 3 Elective Requests and 3 Alternates
Step 4: Submit your 3 Elective Requests and 3 Alternates on our online form by Friday, March 7
Step 5: Receive your Registration Letter and Course Request Verification Form after Spring Break
Once all Pre-Registration and Elective Requests are complete, we will review student interest in the Electives, adjust the LBHS Master Schedule accordingly, and finalize what will be offered.
Then, you will receive another communication with the following:
Registration Letter: Indicating what courses are currently planned for your schedule, as well as important information about preparing for the summer and August.
Course Request Verification Form: This must be returned to your current School Counselor by Friday, April 4th. This is your opportunity to do one of the following:
Confirm that the course selections are accurate
Indicate what changes you’re requesting. These may be changes to your Electives or Pre-Registered courses.
Step 6: Course Request Verification Form due to your current School Counselor by Friday, April 4th (ON HOLD)
Changes not requested on or reflected in signed Verification Form may not be able to be accommodated once Final Schedule is processed.
Courses are not first-come, first-served. Schedules are processed through a randomized computer program.
All students must Pre-Register for a full 7-period schedule regardless of individual interests or circumstances. If approved for a Modified Schedule (rare for 9th graders), course requests will be removed from the Pre-Registration.
Application- and Audition-based classes (SGA, Jazz Band, Studio Dance, etc.) cannot be requested through this form.
There will be a separate process for accessing these opportunities, which will be communicated later this Spring.
Make your Elective and Alternate Requests as though these opportunities are not available. (For example, be sure to request Band 1 if interested in Jazz Band.)
These are just requests for classes. Changes to course offerings due to student interest or federal/state/county policies often occur. Additionally, if 300 students request Cosmetology 1, but there are only 120 seats available throughout the day, 180 students will be scheduled into their Alternate.
Remember that the Pre-Registered classes are based on several years of tracking students matriculate from middle into high school. You can opt for a different Math or Science class than what is Pre-Registered through the Course Request Verification Form you’ll get in March. All 9th Graders take Pre-AP English 1 Honors and are Pre-Registered for Personal Fitness and Personal Finance and Money Management.
If you have any questions, please review the FAQs first – you’re probably not the first with this question and can get it answered quickly!
