How will I select my Core Academic classes?
We provide current students with a list of courses for which they are pre-registered based on their Semester 1 performance. Students can request to change these pre-registered courses throughout the Spring Term. For more information, check out Scheduling Process and PracticesÂ
I plan on applying for and/or auditioning for a leadership program or advanced performing arts group. Do I request those as my election selections?
Program directors and sponsors will make their student selections for the 2025-26 school year in April/May. Since students are not guaranteed acceptance in those programs, you will make your course requests as though the opportunity did not exist.
If it is a leadership program, make elective course selections as if you were denied inclusion in the group. If you are accepted into the program, you will indicate at that time which elective course request you would like to drop.
If it is an advanced performing arts group and you plan on continuing with that program in a lower level if not selected for the advanced group, include the course for the lower level in your course request. If you are accepted into the advanced group, your course request will be updated and you will be scheduled into the correct period.
Is there a required Social Studies class for 9th Grade?
No, Florida only requires 3 credits of Social Studies, each of which is scheduled for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Motivated 9th graders with strong reading and writing skills are invited to take AP Human Geography, which is an introductory-level advanced class in which you can earn college credit. Check out Social Studies for more information.
Are Personal Fitness and Personal Finance and Money Management required for 9th Graders?
While they aren't required to be completed during 9th Grade, they must be taken before you graduate. We Pre-Register all 9th Graders into these two semester-long 0.5 credit courses to ensure they are not missed at higher levels. If there is a scheduling constraint involving higher-priority coursework that prevents a student from fitting one or both of these classes into their schedule, they may opt to take them virtually or in a later school year instead of in person during 9th Grade.
How will I register for my classes?
Once your enrollment is finalized, you will receive a Course Request Form. While most of your core academic classes will be pre-determined by your previous courses and grades on your transcript, you can select electives and enrichment courses on the form.
