To graduate with a High School Diploma in the State of Florida, students must meet the following requirements related to Health and Physical Education:
0.5 credit in Personal Fitness
0.5 credit in a PE Elective
Participation in the following activities provide students with substitutions or waivers from part or all of this requirement:
2 full seasons of an interscholastic FHSAA sport - fulfills both 0.5 Personal Fitness and 0.5 PE Elective
Participating in the one of the following programs waives the 0.5 PE Elective requirement, but not the 0.5 Personal Fitness requirement
1 semester in the Lake Brantley Marching Patriots (if used for this, cannot be applied to the 1.0 credit of Performing/Fine Arts requirement)
1 semester in the Lake Brantley Dance Program (if used for this, cannot be applied to the 1.0 credit of Performing/Fine Arts requirement)
2 years in the AFJROTC Program (also waives the 1.0 credit of the Performing/Fine Arts requirement)
This semester-long 0.5 credit course is an introduction to personal health and physical fitness. This class has direct instruction components that are taught in a traditional classroom, as well as active fitness components taught in the gym, on the track, and in the weight room.Â
This course fulfills the High School Graduation Requirement for 0.5 Personal Fitness, which is a required half of the 1.0 PE requirement.
NOTE: Because a Social Studies course is not required in 9th Grade, all incoming 9th Graders are automatically registered for the 0.5 credit Personal Fitness course and the 0.5 Personal Finance and Money Management course. Because these are Graduation Requirements that are often postponed or missed altogether, it is expected that all 9th graders at Lake Brantley complete them before advancing to 10th grade.
These two semester-long courses are taught consecutively and each earns 0.5 credit. In First Aid and Safety, students will earn their Red Cross CPR Certification.
Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries fulfills the High School Graduation Requirement for 0.5 PE Elective.
All PE Electives:
Are 0.5 credits and fulfill the High School Graduation Requirement for 0.5 PE Elective
Require students to purchase a Lake Brantley PE Uniform
Require dressing out and participating as criteria for grading and earning credit
Are not repeatable - per FLDOE rules, students can only earn these credits once each
We have adjusted our PE Offerings to ensure students do not accidentally repeat course codes and lose credit, while also ensuring students committed to specific types of recreation and fitness have the opportunity to take four full years.
Students who requested sport-specific PE classes have already been reassigned to the appropriate new course. No action is needed.
