To graduate with a High School Diploma in the State of Florida, students must meet the following requirements related to Performing Arts:
1.0 Credit in Performing Arts, Fine Arts, or eligible CTE courses
All of the courses found on this page fulfill this requirement.
Participation in the following Performing Arts programs can provide students with substitutions or waivers for the 0.5 PE Elective Requirement.
1 semester in the Lake Brantley Marching Patriots (if used for this, cannot be applied to the 1.0 credit of Performing/Fine Arts requirement)
The Lake Brantley Band has a rich history of superior musicianship, unmatched camaraderie, outstanding school spirit, and unique memory-making experiences found nowhere else! Whether you're a passionate performer, aspiring composer, or just looking for a place to make life-long friends, the Lake Brantley Band is a big family ready to welcome you!
All students in the Lake Brantley Band should understand the following expectations:
There are several major time commitments:
Afterschool rehearsals
Evening and weekend performances
Performances off-campus, sometimes out of state
Individual at-home practice is required
New students will be matched with instruments based on their interests, abilities, and ensemble needs.
Students are assigned by the directors to one of three ensembles based on their experience, abilities, and ensemble needs.
All students participate in Marching Band Season, July - November, including:
Summer Band Camp
Afterschool rehearsals 2-3 days a week
Performances at all Home and Away Football Games
Participation in the Seminole Marching Band Festival
Participation in the Florida Bandmasters Association Marching Music Performance Assessment (MPA)
Important Note: One of the greatest strengths of the Lake Brantley Band is that students are encouraged to participate in other campus activities, including athletics, other performing arts, and leadership and service groups. Each year we even have multiple varsity football players who play in the first half of each game, then grab their instruments, perform the halftime show in their jerseys, and head back into the game and play the second half! Students who have other obligations are not expected to prioritize Band, but they are expected to coordinate with the directors and manage their time responsibly.
Students are required to pay annual participation fees and engage in fundraising to support Band activities.
There are standards for behavior and personal grooming required of all participants to create a cohesive, high-performing ensemble.
Please visit the Lake Brantley Band Website for more information!
Each Spring, the directors conduct reviews of student skills, abilities, and dedication to improving their musicianship. Based on this information and the needs of the overall program and individual sections, they place students into an ensemble. These placements are non-negotiable: the directors' decision is final.
New students will be matched with instruments based on their interests, abilities, and ensemble needs.
Percussion is a central component to the entire Lake Brantley Band. There are some key differences prospective percussionists should know in advance of joining this popular group.
During Marching Season, percussionists have performance obligations beyond football games, including Friday Morning Drum Circles and Game Day Halling.
During Spring Concert Season, percussionists are assigned by the directors to one of the Concert Ensembles. This is based on student skills and abilities, as well as ensemble needs.
Percussion - especially the Drumline - has limited space. Not all students who wish to participate in Percussion will be able to. Such decisions are the sole discretion of the directors.
In addition to the Lake Brantley Marching Patriots, Concert Ensembles, and Percussion, we are proud to offer two Jazz Ensembles.
Intermediate Jazz Band: For students with at least some experience with Jazz band instruments. Audition may be required.
Advanced Jazz Band: For students with demonstrated mastery of Jazz band instruments and musicianship foundations. Audition required.
