The study of Latin is especially recommended for students who wish to:
Increase English vocabulary and understanding of English grammar, as more than 50% of the English language is derived from Latin
Pursue careers in science, engineering, or medicine, as the language of these fields relies heavily on Latin roots
Pursue careers in law or government, as the legal systems of the Western World are largely built upon Roman frameworks and language
Become a polyglot, learning many different languages in their lifetime, as Latin is the root of all Romance Languages, including Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian.
AP Latin: Vergil & Caesar is designed for highly motivated college-bound students who wish to pursue college level work while still in high school. Students will spend the First Semester reading excerpts from Vergil's epic Aeneid, and the Second Semester reading selections from Julius Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico.
Students who pass the AP assessment for this course will earn Elective credit at most participating colleges and universities.
Two sequential courses in this program will fulfill the Bright Futures Scholarship requirement for Foreign/World Language, as well as the standard admissions requirement for most Florida colleges and universities.
Taking all four of these courses and passing the AP exam will earn the student the nationally-recognized Seal of Biliteracy.
Each of these courses fulfill 1 credit of the High School Graduation Requirement for General Electives.
