Are you in Grades 10-12 and passionate about technology, design, robotics, coding, 3D printing, or laser cutting? The Student Tech Council is your chance to take your skills to the next level. Members will have enhanced access to the Design Lab at lunch, recess, and after school, and will potentially mentor younger “tech protégé” students interested in these areas well. Students can build leadership experience, develop advanced technical skills, and gain resume-ready credentials. Dedicated members can also earn credits toward our Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship graduation diploma.
Councill members will also be called upon to provide feedback and influence school policies around technology. Council members may act as student ambassadors when large-scale decisions around school technology use are made.
Who:
The Technology Council will be open to senior school students in Grades 10-12 with a strong interest in technology, design, robotics, 3D printing, and laser cutting. Students will be selected for their enthusiasm, reliability, and willingness to mentor younger peers.
What:
The council will provide members with enhanced access to the GNS Design Lab and its advanced tools and machines. Students will work on personal projects, support school initiatives, and most importantly, mentor middle school “tech protégé” students. They will help supervise the lab during approved times and model safe and innovative use of equipment.
Where:
All council activities will take place in the Design Lab (AT102), serving as the school’s hub for innovation and creative problem-solving.
When:
Members will have special access during lunch, recess, and after-school hours, and will help facilitate supervised sessions for younger students to strengthen their skills as well.
Why:
The council offers students a unique opportunity for increased access to our Design Lab and to build leadership and mentoring skills that will strengthen our school’s innovative culture. It fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and stewardship of school resources. Active participation will also make students eligible for recognition through the Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship diplomas, highlighting their contributions to our growing innovation ecosystem, and provide additional qualifications for future resumes or transcripts.
