GNS ED TECH PLC
Professional Learning Community - 2023/2024
This new professional learning community (PLC) will delve into the realms of educational technology, classroom innovation, and digital tools with the potential to enhance student learning, boost classroom engagement, and improve teacher efficiency, among other benefits. Our primary aim is to create a designated time and space for a comprehensive exploration of all facets related to technology in teaching and learning. Additionally, this group will play a pivotal role as a sounding board for the implementation of new technology-related initiatives and opportunities at GNS.
All GNS Staff and Faculty are welcome to join!
Initial Meeting Dates:
Monday, November 13 - 3:30pm - 4:30pm (Gudewill 104)
Meeting Date TBD - 3:30pm-4:30pm (Location TBD)
Areas of Focus for 2023-24 School Year
Artificial Intelligence (AI) - The advent of AI may signal the biggest potential shift to teaching and learning that will occur within the span of our careers. Through this focus, we will explore and develop best practices and recommendations for how we will engage with AI tools at GNS. We will discuss the merits of the plethora of AI teaching and learning resources and delve deeper into how AI will affect learning within our unique subject areas.
2. AI ProD Opportunity - Starting in January 2024, we have the opportunity to complete the "Master ChatGPT (and other AI tools) for teaching & learning" course, facilitated by our May 2023 GNS Pro-D keynote speaker, AJ Juliani.Â
Topics will include:
Practical applications for ChatGPT and other AI tools in learning
How to use ChatGPT and other AI tools as a time-saver and teaching tool
Integrating AI into pre-existing K-12 curriculum
Developing responsible-use policies for ChatGPT and other AI tools
How to strike an effective balance between student creativity and generative AI
Strategies for maintaining academic integrity when using AI in classrooms
Similar to a book club model, lessons will be completed asynchronously with PLC time used to discuss and reflect on what we've learned. Practical applications will be developed collaboratively within the group.
3. GNS Innovation Grants - Soon teachers will be able to apply for grants that will support classroom innovation. These grants are designed to support educational risk-taking and innovative teaching and learning practices. This PLC will be involved in determining which grant applications are selected.
4. GNS Ed. Tech. Resources - Discussion around existing educational technology platforms and solutions currently in use at GNS. What's working, what isn't? What are some solutions and best practices to make the most out of the tools we already have.
