A .GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) file is a type of image file format that supports both static and animated images. GIFs are popular for their widespread compatibility and ability to convey brief, looping animations in a compact file size. Similar to a .PNG file, GIFs can also have a transparent background, unlike a .JPG file which can only display a solid background.
Like any animation, an animated GIF is created by having multiple layers of an image and rapidly switching between the layers, just like you would with a paper flipbook animation.
Watch the above tutorial on how to create a bouncing ball image.
Create a new page within your portfolio called "Animated GIFs".
Create your own version of this Bouncing Ball GIF using PhotoPea and add it your portfolio.
Like my example here, you don't have to use a ball for your GIF. Be creative!
Grab a sheet of plain white paper and a pencil or sharpie.
Draw a simple stick character or cartoon and take a picture of it with your Chromebook.
Visit https://sketch.metademolab.com/ and upload your picture and click "next" to finalize the steps to bring your image to life!
Once you have created your AI Animation - upload your original sketch to your portofolio and also embed the link to the finished animation by clicking the "Share" button and the use the embed link to place this on your page like you see below.
Watch the video above to learn how to make a more complicated animation with multiple layers.
Create a simple animation using drawn stick figures (or more complex line drawings if you'd like) in PhotoPea.
Use at least 10 layers to create a detailed animation.
Upload the finished animation to your portfolio.
Identify how many layers you used in a short sentence to describe your animation
Select a famous painting or picture from history. Use some of the examples below or feel free to choose your own.
Select one small area of the image to create an animation (e.g. a wink, smile, etc.)
Use PhotoPea to edit multiple layers of the painting to create the effect like the painting is in motion. Follow the same instructions for creating the animated .GIF files that you used in your previous animations.
Don't forget to add _a_ to each layer's name.
Export your .GIF file and upload it to your portfolio page.
