Code of Conduct
Video games and esports should be open to all. At GNS we are dedicated to fostering respectful, enjoyable, and harassment-free gaming experiences for everyone regardless of sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, or religion.
One of the most important ways we can communicated and share these values is through our code of conduct. Join us in creating a community of gamers that welcomes anybody and includes everybody by agreeing to abide by our GNS Esports Code of Conduct. Our goals for our Esports program has four key goals underpinned by four fundamental values.
Our 4 Key Goals
To foster an inclusive community that treats every person with dignity and respect.
To refrain from making negative, profane, racist, sexist, homophobic or other verbally abusive comments during, or outside, practices and competitions.
To refrain from all forms of harassment, including, but not limited to, sexual harassment and cyber bullying.
To report any violations of our commitment to inclusivity to a coach, administrator, or other person of responsibility.
4 Fundamental Values
Our Code identifies four fundamental values as guides for positive and fulfilling engagement in gaming spaces, even while players compete with one another.
These values can be observed being put into practice in all of the healthiest online communities.
What do we mean by harassment?
Discrimination, hate speech, offensive behavior, or verbal abuse related to sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, or religion
Stalking or intimidation either physically or online
Spamming, raiding, hijacking, or inciting disruption of streams or social media
Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”)
Unwelcome sexual attention including sexualized comments, jokes, and sexual advances
Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour
What do we mean by discrimination?
Sharing hurtful or mean-spirited memes
Making casually bigoted comments or jokes (e.g. “that’s so gay”, “you play like a girl”, etc.)
Trash-talking in a way that focuses on someone’s personal traits instead of on their gaming skill
The GNS Code of Conduct was developed in conjunction with AnyKey, an organization focused on improving diversity and inclusion in gaming.
