Welcome to the Arts in Montgomery

Welcome to the Montgomery Township School District's Visual and Performing Arts Department.  Montgomery believes strongly in the importance of the arts for all students.  The arts allow our students to connect with each other, grow in their self-understanding, and see themselves in this world.  The arts are an innate part of our humanity and their study helps us to understand our connection with each other in a unique and compelling manner.  Through our various arts programs, we strive to develop our students into creative, expressive, confident, and thoughtful contributors to our society.

Montgomery Township is known for its support of the arts.  Our school community believes in their authentic value and importance to developing the whole child and placing a focus on Social and Emotional Learning.  Our teachers, board of education, and district administration work together to continue expanding our offerings and making the arts a priority in our students' lives.

Visual Arts

Montgomery Township Schools offer a comprehensive visual arts program where students have the opportunity to engage in art making through multiple media and course offerings.  All students in grades Pre-K through 6 have art as part of their cycle elective offerings.  In grades 7-12, students have many different choices of visual arts electives.

Theater Arts

Students in grades 7-12 have a variety of theater arts electives to choose from which enable them to explore multiple areas of theater to include acting, improvisation, production, direction, and more.  The NJSLA theater arts standards are also addressed in our elementary related arts classes.  Additionally, the Montgomery Township School District is well known for multiple fantastic theater productions performed annually in grades 5-12.

Music

All students in our PK-4 schools study general and vocal music each year as part of our cycle related arts program.  Our elementary students perform each year in grade-level vocal music concerts.  Beginning in 4th grade, students have the opportunity to learn either a woodwind, brass, percussion, or string instrument as well as sing in an elective choral setting focusing on elementary choral repertoire.  Students continue their music study as a required class through either band, orchestra, chorus, or music workshop in grades 5-6.  As students move into grades7-12, there are a number of course offerings to include ensembles and music electives.
