Attending Emory University in Atlanta, GA, this August, Thomas Heagy is excited to move on with his life post graduation. He currently serves as Co-President of the Mt. Lebanon HS Student Body, and he is a former Fellow and Intern for the Conor Lamb for Congress Campaign and Mt. Lebanon Municipality respectively. A left-leaning centrist in state and federal politics, he is a staunch libertarian when it comes to local governments, especially in regards to free speech. AP Lang classes are "quiet" when he is absent, according to Paul LaQuatra, a designation that earned him a spot in the ad hoc EGOS group. His experience in internships, leadership positions, and different jobs have exposed him to interactions with various forms of administrators, and these interactions have influenced his opinions on student speech. He hopes to use this project to explore the topic and inform his peers.
Planning to study Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall and hoping to attend law school, Thomas is known for arguing pretty much anything. His favorite topics range from overnight parking to the nature of democracy and morality. Having served as Mt. Lebanon's Junior Commissioner and as a Fellow and Intern with the Conor Lamb For Congress Campaign, Thomas is well-versed in student free speech and on youth activism. He hopes that increased awareness of free speech will lead to increased involvement in the fight for what's right on the local, state, and national level. Constantly seeking consensus or maybe just a concession—a state of mind worthy of his placement in the E.G.O.S. ad hoc group—Thomas feels strongly on the topic of student free speech and its essential role in education.
Will will be attending Boston University for Engineering and Business. He participates in theatre arts, serves as the president of the student choir board, and serves as a teacher assistant for the Engineering Design Challenge in AP Environmental Science. Passionate about almost any issue, but particularly his right to express an opinion, Will feels strongly on the topic of Student Free Speech. In hopes of protecting viewpoints of every nature and groups of every kind, Will wants to inform students of their right to expression. Will hopes to help future students to express their views respectfully and confidently, and he is excited about the potential of an informed and free student population. With a high ambition and a BIG EGO, Will is proud to call himself an Ad Hoc part of E.G.O.S.
