Luigino "Pippy" Croce is a Swiss-Italian-American living in Mt. Lebanon. He played soccer on the Mt. Lebanon High School team, and he will continue his academic and athletic career at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Aside from his collegiate aspirations, he was raised by parents who have experienced corporal punishment first-hand. Because of his parents background, Luigino has been exposed to corporal punishment on several accounts during his upbringing. By hearing these stories along with experiencing corporal punished himself, Luigino has come to the conclusion that it should be banned in public schools across the United States as well as in all homes.
Emmett Meinzer is a German-Hungarian-American, and he played alongside Pippy on the Mt. Lebanon High School team. He plans to attend Penn State University. Emmett has often been called the biggest suck up to Mr. LaQuatra, and he recently cancelled his registration for the AP Language and Composition test because he realized it would do nothing for him, in terms of AP credit at Penn State (*tear drop*). Emmett has also experienced corporal punishment first-hand, and he argues that, given the long lasting psychological tolls of corporal punishment, it should be banned nationwide in schools. Corporal punishment, however, should not be banned in homes because parents should maintain the right to discipline their children in the manner that they choose (as long as the punishment does not turn into abuse).
Ryan Gaughan is an Irish-Italian-American, and he is a defensive lineman on the Mt. Lebanon High School football team. He plans to continue his academic and athletic career at Carnegie Mellon University, where he will use his "melon" in the Tepper School of Business and on the football field. He even plans to room with fellow Mt. Lebanon senior and football player Donald DeCaro. Unlike Pippy and Emmett, Ryan was luckily not subjected to corporal punishment at home growing up. He believes that, because he was successfully raised without the use of corporal punishment, the practice of corporal punishment has no place in the American public school system or in the household.
