Refugee Camp Countries
Samantha
I drew a map of Bangladesh, Myanmar, and India on a big piece of white paper. I used sharpie to outline the countries and to name the country. I have arrows in Myanmar to show people escaping to other countries. I drew this to show how thousands of people are leaving the country they lived in.
The human right I focused on is everyone has the right to seek asylum. People should have the right to move where and when they want, and not be forced to leave because of war. But if they are forced to leave, they should have the right to find a safe place to live. People have the right to go where they want to go in their own country and to travel where they want to, especially if they are in danger.
The message that I’m trying to give is that people should not have to be moved and leave somewhere that they love and then go somewhere they don’t know. What I want the viewer to see when they look at my art is that refugees go to these countries and walk over rivers and through the woods to go find a safe place to live. There is a total of 1.1 million Rohingya that remained in Myanmar after violence started there in the late 1970’s. The Rohingya people are waiting to have food and water at the refugee camps they are staying at because some camps have about 600,000 Rohingya people in the camp.
When looking at the map I hope the viewers think in their mind that refugees are walking all over these countries to find a camp to stay in because they are not safe in Myanmar.
