Discrimination
Sarah
My piece is a painted black box, with sticks attached to the front to represent the bars of a jail cell. Two hands reach out on to the sticks The facts inside the box are about mass incarceration of African Americans. This art piece symbolizes innocent people trapped in jail.
I chose to research about people who have been wrongly convicted because I think it should change. I found out that African Americans are incarcerated at more than 5 times the rate of whites. The imprisonment rate for African American women is twice that of white women. I think African American and whites should be treated the same. I think everyone should be treated equal.
I hope that when people look at my art and that facts it say, they will think a little more about mass incarceration in America.
