We’re All Equal Here
Brianna
My artwork was created with markers, sharpies and colored pencils on a poster paper My drawing shows a man on the right side, and a women on the left side with only half of their faces showing. My inspiration for the creation of this piece was a split face painting I saw at the Holocaust and Human Rights Center art gallery. When I saw it, I liked the idea, so when it was time for me to make my art I thought about that and I ended up doing something kind of like that. Each side of my drawing also shows quotes from both the women’s and men’s point of views on women’s issues. The picture shows that men can speak whenever and say whatever their opinion is because in the drawing he has a normal mouth. The woman, however, doesn’t. She is crying, and has an X over her mouth. That represents that women can’t speak freely and can’t always have an opinion and show it.
I chose to research women’s right because I think it is an interesting topic, but I also think it is horrible what woman have to go through. I learned a lot about young girls in different countries and how they have to deal with not being able to go to school just because they are girls. They can only dream about school, and only the boys can have an education. Many girls have to work without getting paid; these girls have no rights. Sometimes girls as young as 6 have to get married without a choice. Girls are teased and beat because of their clothes and how poor they are.
The message I am trying to convey in my artwork is that, depending on your gender, you may have limited rights. Males have more opportunities because of their gender. A little bit of differences in the body make a huge difference in how you live, and I dont think it’s fair or equal that just because you were born a female you don’t have the same rights as males. Many cultures value males more. A boy and a girl can have the same exact job but the boy will get paid more than the girl. Society makes you believe that boys are stronger than girls but this isn’t always true. So my message is that people should stop being sexist and should start making everyone equal even if it will take a long time.
