Shattered
Destiny
My piece is composed on three canvases, one big and two small. The media is acrylic painted with brush and sponge and broken glass pieces mounted with glue.
I chose to research torture because girls and women are getting sexually abused around the world by men and boys, generally when other people aren’t around. I want this to stop. It is not right for these females to go through this.
My message is that females who are being tortured are shattered inside because of what happened to them. Some females don’t show it, but on the inside they feel like they don’t have control and are unable to stop the sexual abuse. They feel like the men and boys have power over the women and girls.
I wanted to make this art piece because it made me mad that men and boys are sexually abusing women and girls. I think it is not right that girls and women don’t have control over their bodies and they can’t tell anyone. Girls and women often can’t tell people because many people in positions of power are perpetrators themselves. This may include teachers, police officers, bosses, and managers. Girls and women can’t catch a break. There are some countries out their like Brazil, Burma, Bolivia, Lesotho, China, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and Australia where sexual abuse is so bad that girls and women are getting HIV and other diseases. I read that when girls in Lesotho are very young, they are taught that men are better than they are and have a right to their bodies. In Lesotho talking about sex is taboo for girls. One out of every three girls experiences some kind of sexual abuse before the age 18. I think that I will be able to be a voice to these females by getting my art piece out there and showing people that they need our help. I feel like if my art piece is out there and everybody knows what is happening in these countries we can stop it from happening again.
