Refuge
Kayla
The right I decided to research states that you have rights no matter where you go. For my piece I made a refugee camp. To make the refugee camp I used popsicle sticks, paint, tarp, and hot glue on a canvas. I also decided to add other little details to make the camp seem more realistic.
I chose this right because people should be able to have the same rights everywhere no matter what. Sometimes when people go to other countries or continents, they get abused because they aren’t accepted in that country or continent for whatever reason.
From my piece I want to send the message that people should be equal, and they shouldn’t be kicked out of their country. For example, people in Syria have had to leave their homes because there is a war and people were saying that the war would never end. After they left their homes, they didn’t have all of their rights at the refugee camps.
Syria is in The Middle East, and a civil war began there in 2011. There have been more than 450,000 people that have been killed or injured. Lots of people have moved from their homes to protect themselves. One person I found out about was Hassan. Hassan is a 14 year old who is from Syria and was a great singer. Five years ago Hassan and his family had to leave their home because there was a war. The war became dangerous and they could not stay there. Hassan family wanted him to join a music club. There was over 200 kids that join but they had to choose 24 of them and one of them where Hassan. He played for a year and a half. Hassan sang traditional songs from his homeland. It helped him to forget about what happened to him. He always said “ music is the most important thing.” All of the kids played for Syria, Egypt and Turkey. The band play some of the Egyption songs. The music helps the kid forget what happened in the live and what happened to their homes. “Art gives people strength, el-Husseiny said. And this strength is important. She said people with hard lives need it the most.” This is what Hassan did to get his mind off of what happened to his home and to his hometown. Hassan was so happy just by playing music.
