For my internship I interned with my father at Pagosa Area Water & Sanitation! While it may not sound like the most fun place, I choose it because I wanted to learn more about it, it has stuff to do with engineering and water treatment, and because I couldn't get into my other first choices. Pagosa Area Water & Sanitation District is a business that filters waste water and treats water for the area of Pagosa using waste water plants and tanks spread around the area of Pagosa. They do this so that the people of Pagosa can get fresh water for everyday life, and to filter out the bad water because it's gotta go somewhere right? So they filter it to return it to the river. Throughout the week I helped my supervisor (my father) with making a control panel. The first day though I learned the basics of the system they/my father uses to control the plants, tanks, and filtration systems. This system is called SCATA! Continuing throughout the week I helped make a lift station control panel with a PLC, circuit breaker, surge protection device, fuse holders, terminal blocks, and many different types of wires! Before I could start working on this though I had to learn to read the drawing (blueprint) of it.
Throughout this internship I learned many new skills, i.e how to use some new tools like a band saw and wire sheers, how to read electric drawings/blueprints, how to use a SCADA system, what a VPN is, how to sit through tech support, and how to wire and assemble a control panel. While I'm not entirely sure what I'm gonna go into in the future I know that engineering is a useful topic to know stuff about so I'm quite sure this will help me. While I didn't make as much of an impact on my community as others, I did make something that will help people in pagosa get their water treated! So I made an impact on Pagosa's community!
I was given a Meets+ on my internship presentation and a Meets on my internship journal! I got these grades because I met the requirements of 200 hundred words per journal entry, and I was calm and confident during my presentation. Giving good details in a short time.
