We are working on a project about geology including rock layers of our region.
My goal for science is to make discussions effective, by clearly expressing ideas, asking probing questions, and making sure everyone is heard.
One example of my work is the rock cycle lab. In this lab we took starbursts and used different methods to conduct the rock cycle, turning the starburst into different types of rocks(sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous.). The lab definitely helped me understand the rock cycle.
Our exhibition went wonderful! And so far in science I have learned a lot! Here are some things about the science part of the exhibition. My group presented our rock wall very well I think. We pointed to the different parts when I talked about the different rocks on the wall but I think that we could have put more info about the different rock layers but other than that I think it was good. We engaged with the audience by pointing at the parts of the rock wall that I was pointing at and making eye contact with the people in the crowd. We didn’t receive really any bad feedback or at least not that I could tell. We had very good communication when it came to the model and the rock wall, not so much the script but anyways. We came up with the colors, texture, and names-ish. We talked and told each other what we were going to do before we did it. I was the clay shaper and painter, Tobin was the texture maker, and Armancio was the scriptwriter. I am the most proud of everything! I think everything went well and just how we wanted it despite some hiccups (Could not finger out the grass and pieces of the wall breaking). I wouldn't do anything different! We worked thoroughly and quickly making our slides the way that we wanted.
Project 2: Space Odyssey
Exhibition Reflection
For our second unit of science we learned about space, planets, gravity, and more. The whole process of the exhibition was long but really fun! We started off with our partners, mine were Tobin and Ansley. Once we found those out we got into our groups and found a spot in the room. The first day was not very productive but we figured out what we were going to do. The next few weeks were a lot of research and building. Then finally it was a couple days before the exhibition and time to write a script. Writing the script was fun but at the same time a little bit hard because we had to separate all of the research into different parts of the script. I am the most proud of the escape room, the one pager, and everything else! I feel that we did really well with the things that we ended up making and the exhibition went perfect! I would probably change the fact that we didn't have as much as the other groups because of lack of planning. We realized a few days before the exhibition that we didn’t have much to put on the table, but we couldn’t make a model because we didn’t have enough time. My overall grade on the exhibition was an Exceeds!
This project was really fun because we got to do fundraising, art, and much more to save the Earth! I feel that my action plan was really effective, I raised 218$ and I'm still trying to raise more! That's around 200-ish trees planted! I could have improved my planning tactics because there was some confusion on what day I was going to do the bake sales and where I was going to do them. Through this project I started to understand more about deforestation and how bad it is for the world. I realized that deforestation was affecting other plants, when trees are cut some plants lose water and nutrients. I feel like I put a lot of effort into this project because I had to make all the baked goods, posters, and other things on my own. I am the most proud of how much money I raised, I really didn’t expect to make that much! This project definitely made me feel more confident with doing more things like this and it made me more aware of the deforestation problem around the world.
