As students face the problem of lack of a conducive and safe workplace to carry out Eco-related projects and store tools and materials. Therefore the school has changed the use of an empty classroom into CPT Green Maker Space to solve this problem. The position of this room is very strategic because it is close to the teacher's room and easy to monitor and suitable for storing tools for the Eco Projects. Started as a storage room for garden tools, soil and discarded flower pots collected for recycling. CPT Green Maker space was first used by members of the Nature Lovers Club while preparing the Vertical Garden to cut pots from plastic water storage barrels. The idea of reusing old banners to create new banners for the launch of all school projects especially Green and Eco related projects makes this room the focus of students who love to draw and paint. This room gives freedom of space and opportunity to teachers and students to generate ideas and up-cycle old items or create any innovation from recycled items.
To provide a comfortable and conducive work space for Eco related activities
To provide the materials and tools needed for the Eco related activities
To provide a space for the mushroom project
White Paint & Painting Tools : RM 40
Pelaka Paint & Brush: RM 20
furniture and decoration in the room are zero cost due to we up-cycle existing items in the school and we reuse those decorative materials collected from the recycling room
Green Maker Space has been upgraded from an empty classroom. Initially we carried out gotong royong activity to vacate the room. Next, we painted the room to look more cheerful. Then, the tables, chairs and cupboards were moved from the store room into this room.
Various activities have been carried out in this room, including:
innovation projects
meeting
mushroom growing
exhibition
Eco project tools storage areas and so on.
The potential for giftedness or a high level of intellectual development begins very early in a child’s life. Studies since the early 1970s consistently show that such development is the result of an interaction between the child’s genetic endowment and a rich and appropriate environment in which the child grows. No child is born gifted—only with the potential for giftedness. Although all children have amazing potential, only those who are fortunate enough to have opportunities to develop their uniqueness in an environment that responds to their particular patterns and needs will be able to actualize their abilities to high levels. Research in psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, and early learning can help parents create responsive environments that allow their children to develop their potential to the fullest—that is, to create giftedness.
Therefore, withe existence of the green maker space in SMKCPT, student potential was developed through the opportunities given by the school throughout the green project. Students become more confident and self esteem has also increased after they get involved in all the activities. This helps a lot in their future.
The secret of CPT success in several competitions and program such as Water vision, Green School Awards, Canteen Awards, Gold Awards, Eco-School Program and the success of other school projects is due to the existence of CPT Green Maker Space. This room gives freedom of space and opportunity to teachers and students to generate ideas and up-cycle old items or create any innovation from recycled items.
