Evaluation and Assessment of Autism

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD)

Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 3:00 pm on Zoom

An Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Diagnosis involves several different screenings, genetic tests, and evaluations.

As the numbers of children identified as having an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have increased in recent years, obtaining a comprehensive ASD evaluation and accurate diagnosis has become even more critical. This might be attributed to the broadening of diagnostic criteria, diagnostic substitution, better awareness, true “epidemic,” or perhaps a composite thereof.

Embarking on the evaluation and assessment process can seem overwhelming for parents of a child who is experiencing significant developmental delays, including social, behavioural, and communication difficulties. It is important to understand the purpose of obtaining an accurate assessment and the benefits that can result from participating in the process.

It is equally important to consider periodically updated evaluations for educational and treatment planning.
