In this lesson, students learned about different funeral practices of different cultures including sarcophagi, tombs, and coffins. We discussed the purpose of these art items, to preserve, honor, or celebrate the lives of loved ones and reflected on how we would want to be remembered. Students designed their own sarcophagi/tombs using preliminary drawings. Next, they translated these drawings to 3D sculptures using recycled materials and found objects.
