Our group defined the Artworks theme of Reciprocal Relationships as “helping your community.” We focused on themes of teamwork, recycling, compassion, collaboration, and communication. Through our art projects, we want to emphasize the importance of community in the visual arts and how students can use art to improve their community. By creating their heroes, dream houses, and murals, our students are prompted to think about a future world they want to live in, and how to make that dream a reality. Using found natural materials connects students to their local environment, and highlights their role & responsibilities as a member of the ecosystem. Through these activities students can recognize the importance of communities, and the camaraderie and care that maintains them.
