Symbolic Still Life
Slides of some self portrait practice
Over weeks three and four, we explored the ideas of making self portraits by using only objects. Specifically, we looked at the Baroque Vanitas, symbolic still life paintings. We focused on what symbols are and what they can mean.
After the students chose objects they felt symbolized themselves, they set them up and drew them out. For our second class, the students were able to paint them with watercolors
