Staff Absences
The handbook doesn’t allow sick time to be used for vacations. Sick leave is only for the purpose of covering time off for Personal Illness (PI) or Illness of Immediate Family (FI). You may take unpaid time off.
Both Nurses and Nursing Assistants have up to 1 personal day per school year based on FTE. Please see the Handbook for details.
If you are taking time for an appointment for you or your child(ren) you should work with your school counterpart first to try to cover for one another. Do not reach out to subs or surge nurses on your own to ask them to cover for you.
We cover the health office, not people. If your health office is covered, you won’t get a sub. Sometimes a nurse may need to go to your other school on an unscheduled day to cover the health office.
Absences for Illness
When you or an immediate family member is sick or hospitalized you must:
Fill out the Personal or Family Illness Absence form or call Nancy Koch Meyer (608) 663-8437 before 7:00 am. Indicate if your health office has coverage or needs a sub.
IF you need to leave mid-day for an illness or emergency, you must call Nancy Koch Meyer as well as let your principal know that you are leaving.
You must let your Health Office co-worker and your principal know that you are out for the day.
You must request either PI or FI from your building secretary.
Pre-Approved Absence
Email Sarah Breon when taking time off for a personal day, medical appointments or religious holiday and/or for unpaid personal days.
