Background

There is no deep meaning here. I love rice krispie bars and these are my favorite version. This recipe is adapted from a Smitten Kitchen recipe.

Equipment

    • 9x9 or 9x13 inch pan

    • pot

    • spoon

    • stovetop

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (salted works too, just lessen the amount of salt you add)

  • 2 bags of marshmallows (mini are easiest)

  • heaping 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt

  • 8-10 cups rice krispies (if you want them super marshmallowy, use 8 cups or less)

  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

1) Butter your pan.

2) In a large pot, melt butter over medium-low heat. Stirring frequently let it melt, then foam, then start to brown.

3) Once it starts to brown, watch it carefully and pull it from the heat when is smells nutty and is a rich golden color. Turn off heat.

4) Add salt and stir, then add marshmallows and stir until they are melted. If need be, turn the heat back on this complete the melting.

5) Once all smooth add the vanilla and stir.

6) Add the rice krispies and quickly mix.

7) Spread the whole mix into your pan and smooth out (helps if you butter your hands or put cold water on them).

8) Let cool and enjoy!
