Easy Apple Crisp - Jacob Geers '21

Background

This recipe comes from my great-grandmother and is a favorite within my family come fall and winter. There are just two spices, but they come though very strongly and provide a wonderful warmth.

Equipment

    • 8"x8" pan or 9" pie plate

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 cups Sliced Apples (I prefer Granny Smith),

  • 2/3 cups brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup flour

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal (old fashioned oats work best)

  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon

  • 3/4 tsp. nutmeg

  • 1/3 cup butter (softened)

Instructions

1)Preheat oven to 375°F

2) Grease pan or pie plate, and place sliced apples on the bottom, no need to be careful about the arrangement (Sometimes it's nice to toss the apples in cinnamon sugar or honey or anything like that if you have it on hand)

3) Mix all the remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl and crumble over the top.

4) Don't work the mixture too much, you want some of the butter to be in pieces so it'll melt and run over the apples.

5) Bake for 30 minutes. Best served with vanilla ice cream or soft-whipped cream.
