We regularly assess our curriculum offerings at Lordswood Boys' School, aiming to provide your son with a diverse and engaging educational experience that fosters both academic and life skills development.
In line with this commitment, we are interested in hearing from parents and carers of current Year 7 students about the potential introduction of swimming lessons in the upcoming academic year, 2024-2025.
If your son is currently in Year 7, we kindly request that you complete the parent/carer survey accessible through the provided link - click here.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we will keep you informed of any decisions made regarding this matter.
Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope this message finds you well. As we approach a crucial time in the academic year, I wanted to take a moment to share some updates regarding the progress of our Year 11 students and the remarkable efforts they have put forth in their coursework.
First and foremost, I am delighted to inform you that our Year 11 cohort has been demonstrating exceptional dedication and perseverance, particularly in the completion of their Music, Art, and Design Technology coursework. The creativity they have exhibited in these subjects are truly commendable, and it speaks volumes about their commitment to their studies.
It's important to recognise the significance of creative subjects in the development of key skills that are essential for success in both academia and beyond. Not only do Music, Art, and DT foster creativity and self-expression, but they also nurture critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills—all of which are integral to a well-rounded education and closely linked to literacy development.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff for their relentless commitment and hard work, often going above and beyond their duties to support our students outside of regular school hours. Their unwavering dedication is truly inspiring and has undoubtedly contributed to the progress and achievements of our Year 11 students.
As we prepare for the upcoming external examinations, scheduled to commence on Thursday, May 9th, I urge our students to maintain their motivation and continue working diligently on their revision. The effort they invest in these final weeks leading up to the exams will undoubtedly pay off, and we are here to support them every step of the way.
Please note that the school will be closed for the May Day bank holiday on Monday, May 6th. Classes will resume as usual on Tuesday, May 7th.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring the success of our students. Together, we can help them reach their full potential and achieve their academic goals.
Please ensure you read through the Head of Year update that is relevant to your son and make contact with our colleagues should you have any questions or quries.
The National Online Safety programme publishes a weekly #WakeUpWednesday update for parents/carers. This weeks update relates to 'SHOPPING APPS'.
On 19th April 2024, Ofcom released their annual Media Use and Attitudes Report, detailing the findings of several surveys and their implications for parents, children and young people in the UK. These statistics often include plenty of thought-provoking information relating to online safety.
The report itself is extremely extensive, so instead WUW have provided a bespoke selection of data gathered by Ofcom about children and young people’s experiences on social media, video games and the like. Check the guide for a thorough breakdown of the headline findings.
I hope your find this information useful.

Performing Arts
KS3 are now coming towards the end of their topic of ‘Dances Around the World’. This week we have been focusing on Capoeira. Capoeira is a unique Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. Originally practiced as a form of self-defence and resistance against oppression, Capoeira was disguised as a dance to evade punishment. The students have once again demonstrated excellence in their learning, effort and enthusiasm in performance.
Extra-Curricular
On Monday 29th April, Ninestiles School arrived for the second round of Parliamentary Debate Competition. Miss Baker has shared some insight into this fantastic event.
On Monday Evening, Ninestiles joined us at Lordswood Boys' School (which they said was an incredible site!) for an impressive debate.
The motion: "This house would treat E-Sports (gaming) like a real sport.
For the last few weeks, in between intense revision and intervention sessions, the KS4 Debate Team have been reading and researching the topic and preparing for the debate with passion and enthusiasm. They were anxious for Ninestiles to arrive on Monday, and despite the late arrival, both teams were articulate, inspired, and eager to win.
This time round Ninestiles managed to beat our team by a few points, but the night was not a complete defeat. Faraz won a certificate for Best Questions, and Jashnpreet won Best Research. And despite the loss, the teams were keen to network and discuss the debate further, having to be ushered out of the building!
All in all we are proud of our debate team, and Ninestiles have invited us for a tie breaker debate next half term. Here's to a final victory for the team!
Here is a reminder regarding our Extra-Curricular provision. Please find the timetable below of the clubs that we offer. This timetable has been amended slightly for the remainder of this half-term.
Cricket Provision
On Monday 29th April we had a Year 10 Indoor Cricket final at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre in Perry Barr. We breezed through the first 3 games and then came up against Starbank Academy, a team full of Club players. Knowing we will face them in the final, as we had both won our first 3 games, this was a warmup. Unfortunately the students came up short and were an above par target of 84. LBS lost by 4 wickets. It was the same result in the final, where we were outplayed by the strength of their team. Regardless of the result, the students did well to get to the final and were commended for their skills.
Congratulations to the players.
On Wednesday 1st May we took a Year 8 team to play an indoor cricket final, a 3 game round robin league initially, and the Winner of group A would face the Winner of group B. Unfortunately losing the first game vs King Edwards Handsworth and then KESH beating Starbank Academy, we couldn’t progress to the final. However, a good result vs Starbank topped off a good season for the students.
Congratulations to; Ali Usman, Manraaj Benning, Phil Baldy, Eron Nimseth, Reon Nimseth, Sachin Banda
The PE department has been working hard to introduce students to local cricket clubs. As such, 2 of our students will be making their club debut on Sunday, Eron and Reon Nimseth. Join us in wishing them the very best of luck of what will hopefully be a successful season.
Cricket Training
The Wednesday after School Cricket session will now take place at the Edgbaston Foundation Ground. This is an outdoor venue which ensures that students have access to outstanding facilities and coaching. Please see a member of the PE team for a letter which details how to get to the facility and further information.
Player of the Month - April
Congratulations to the following students for winning the April Player of the Month Awards in their respected Sports:

Football - Mahdi has proven to be a crucial player in the Year 8 ESA as well as representing the Year 9 team. Mahdi has worked hard to develop his game tactically in order to understand the game further, this has been evident in his performances in games and in training.
