Year 7 Student Parliament Charity Event 🏀

We would like to take a moment to celebrate our fantastic Year 7 Student Parliament, who recently planned, promoted and delivered their very own charity event: “Can You Beat the Year 11s at Basketball?”

From the initial spark of an idea to the final whistle on the court, our Year 7 students took full ownership of the event. They demonstrated impressive teamwork, organisation and leadership, coordinating every detail themselves - from creating PowerPoints and designing promotional posters to establishing game rules and managing money collection. It was a wonderful example of student voice in action and a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve when given responsibility and trust.

The students thoughtfully chose to support Water for Africa, a charity dedicated to improving access to clean water across African communities. Their decision reflects a genuine commitment to making a difference beyond our school gates and supporting global causes that truly matter.

Thanks to their hard work , and the enthusiastic participation of our brilliant Year 11 students, the event raised an impressive £72.50. This was a proud moment for our Year 7 Student Parliament and a fantastic example of leadership, initiative and community spirit.

Share the Story – World Book Day Book Swap 📖✨

As part of our World Book Day celebrations this Thursday, we are excited to be hosting The Big Book Swap in the library all day.

Students are invited to bring in a pre-loved book from home to swap for a different one - giving them the chance to discover a new story to enjoy and take home. It’s a wonderful way to refresh bookshelves, share favourite reads, and encourage a love of reading across our school community.

The Big Book Swap is part of our whole-school reading for pleasure drive, helping every student find something they genuinely want to read.

We look forward to seeing lots of fantastic books being shared!

Y8 STEM Club Take on the Ultimate Maths Relay Challenge!

This week, our Year 8 STEM Club swapped their lab coats 🥼 for calculators and quick thinking as they took part in a fun and fast-paced Maths Relay Challenge 📐. The room was buzzing with energy as teams raced to solve problems, collect answers and pass their sheets to the next person, all against the clock! ⏱️

The relay tested not only students’ mathematical skills, but also their teamwork, communication and resilience. Each round required a different area of maths, from algebra and geometry to problem-solving puzzles and logic challenges.

It was fantastic to see students supporting one another, carefully checking answers, encouraging their teammates and celebrating small victories 🎊 along the way. The competitive spirit was high, and the determination on display was impressive.

Congratulations to the winning team 🎉, who demonstrated outstanding problem-solving under pressure and excellent accuracy throughout the challenge. Every participant showed enthusiasm, perseverance and genuine mathematical curiosity, exactly what STEM Club is all about! 🔍➗

The Football College event was a huge success, delivering a full day of competitive, high-quality football across Years 7–11. Despite cold and wet weather conditions, students showed outstanding resilience, commitment, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The standard of play was exceptional, with teams producing some unbelievable football. The day featured long-range screamers, dramatic goal-mouth action, and several crucial penalties that were brilliantly saved, keeping spectators entertained from start to finish.

⚽Year 8 Football ⚽

Mr Badu's Year 8 team hosted Streetly School on Wednesday evening in a mouth watering Quarter Final clash in the Birmingham Schools' Cup. Streetly came into the game as favourites as they are a very strong School in terms of football. The game was highly competitive with both teams testing each other's resolve. Streetly had that bit of quality in front of goal which was the difference in the game, they took their chances and created numerous opportunities. Lordswood battled right until the end and should be very proud of their performance. To reach the Quarter Finals of such a prestigious event is a real achievement. They now turn their attention back to league action as they battle for a top two finish. Year 8 host Bishop Challoner next Thursday.

⚽Year 7 Football ⚽

Year 7 hosted Shenley Academy on Thursday evening in a friendly fixture. Mr Noble and our Year 11 sports leader Alfie Cutler oversaw the fixture, Year 7 have played numerous games this year so it was another opportunity to gain some match experience. Lordswood ran out with 3-1 winners, Karum scored two and Louis also got on the score sheet. The boys played with good technical quality, they were comfortable in possession and moved the ball at speed. Due to the amount of games they have played, they have a really good understanding of how we want the team to look and the tactical approach to games.

Our Porta Trip is fast approaching and we are very much looking forward to it. Please note that the deposit is due by 6th March. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Janes.

🎼Upcoming Music Events - dates for your diary 🎼

Despite the shorter half term, the Music Department has an exciting few weeks ahead:

🎧 Monday 2nd March – Soundlab Rehearsals
Our partnership with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire resumes, with students continuing ensemble work and specialist coaching.

🎤 Thursday 5th & Friday 6th March – GCSE Practical Exams - Year 11 students will complete their performance assessments.

Individual exam times will be issued
Solo or ensemble performance may be recorded
Students must bring sheet music and any required instruments/equipment

🎻 Thursday 26th March – Pop Symphony Orchestra Performance Performing at the Services for Education Gala at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Letters will follow with full details.

🎶 Friday 27th March – Lordswood Music Unite Day
A collaborative music project between Lordswood Boys’ School and Lordswood Girls’ School.

🎸 Year 10 Rock Anthems - A brilliant week of Music! 🎸

Year 10 Music students have been exploring Rock Anthems as part of GCSE Area of Study 5, learning about the defining features of the genre before putting their knowledge into practice.

This week, they began ensemble rehearsals of “We Will Rock You”, showing fantastic focus and enthusiasm. Groups worked hard to secure rhythms, blend parts and build confidence together. Impressively, many were ready to share their first performance attempts by the end of their first lesson — a huge achievement.

The teamwork, energy and determination across the year group have been wonderful to see.

Well done, Year 10!

🎶 Bronze Arts Award – Creative Progress in Action

Our Bronze Arts Award students enjoyed a productive Thursday morning, working towards completion of their first assessment unit. Their efforts are building towards a concert showcase for our Silver Award students later this term.

🌟 Current Projects Include:

Composing original music using technology
Preparing drum kit performances
Developing a classical keyboard duet

The creativity and individuality within the group has been fantastic, and the progress so far reflects real commitment and enthusiasm.

For Year 11, you are half way through mocks and the journey isn’t over. Keep working hard on your revision and then it will be time to take the feedback, plan your next steps, and remember: every bit of preparation now pays off in your final exams. Keep that focus, resilience, and positivity!
