🏆LBS Publishing House Success! ✍️
We are so proud of Year 8 students Humayl and Jeron for their incredible achievement in the Young Writers' Competition titled Grim Tales. Their original stories impressed the judges and earned them a well deserved place in the published anthology.
Entering a national writing competition is an achievement in itself. Winning and being selected for publication shows real creativity, commitment and confidence in their storytelling abilities. Both students worked hard to craft imaginative pieces that captured atmosphere, emotion and suspense.
Well done to all the students who entered & to our superstar winners!

🧘 A Fresh New Look for Our Quiet Room
We are delighted to unveil our newly revamped Quiet Room, designed as a calm and supportive space for students.
With soft mood lighting, comfy beanbags, and mindful colouring activities, the room now offers a soothing place to relax and reset. Clear strategies are displayed to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour, helping students feel safe, calm, and ready to learn.
A huge thank you to the inclusion team & Ms Bi for all your work on ensuring everyone can access the support they need, whenever they need it!
This week in STEM Club 📐, students blended mathematical thinking with festive creativity as they designed their very own fractal Christmas trees 🎄. It was a brilliant opportunity to see how maths, art, and science come together to create something both beautiful and intellectually exciting.
Fractals, repeating patterns found in nature from snowflakes and trees to shells and clouds, sparked real curiosity. Students enjoyed exploring how these patterns work and were even more enthusiastic about building their own fractal-inspired Christmas designs 🌲.
Armed with scissors, glue, and plenty of imagination, they produced an amazing range of fractal trees. The focus, creativity, and teamwork on display were fantastic ⭐.
A wonderful session that reminded us all that STEM isn’t just about problem-solving, it’s about creativity, curiosity, and discovering the patterns that shape our world 🌍.
Extra- Curricular & Personal Development
🌟 Year 9 Extra-Curricular Programme: Refreshed and Re-Energised! 🌟
This half term, our Year 9 Extra-Curricular Programme has launched with a fresh, vibrant range of activities designed with student voice at the heart 🎉. Before the break, we gathered feedback during form time and spoke with staff about what students truly want from their after-school experience. The result? A programme that is engaging, varied, and genuinely shaped by our young people 💬✨.
In the first week, students have dived into some fantastic new clubs:
👩🍳 Cooking Club – Students learned practical kitchen skills, created tasty dishes, and built confidence step by step. 🍳
🎮 Gaming Club – A welcoming space to play, connect, and discuss strategies with friends in a supervised, positive environment 🤝.
🎯 Darts Club – Focus, precision, and hand-eye coordination combined in a fun and social activity.
⚽ Before-School Football – A brilliant way to kick-start the day, get active, and build team spirit before lessons even begin 🌅.
One of the most exciting additions this term is the return of our Cross-Year Pokémon Club 🃏⚡🔥. Open to all students, this club is perfect for trading cards, strategising, building decks, or simply enjoying the world of Pokémon. Beyond the game, it’s a space to build friendships, express creativity, and connect across year groups.
📢Why Extra- curricular Matters: At LBS, we believe extra-curricular participation is a vital part of the school experience. It helps young people: Develop character, Build social confidence, Strengthen their sense of belonging, Discover new interests and Grow through shared experiences. When students engage in activities they enjoy, especially ones shaped by their own voice, school becomes a place where they belong, achieve and thrive. 🌱🤝
👉 What’s Next? If your son is not currently attending an extra-curricular club but would like to join, please encourage him to speak to Mr Insley so he can be added to the register. We’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to see our Year 9s leading the way with fantastic club participation! 🚀💙
Year 11 Mock Examination Timetable & Revision Checklists
⚽Manchester City Trip ⚽
We are taking 52 students to Manchester City on Tuesday night next week for a Champions League Fixture. The students will be transported to the game on a luxury coach, we will be setting off from Lordswood at 3:30 PM to allow enough time to visit the club shop and to have a look around the stadium. This is an exciting opportunity for the students to experience a professional European game as well as visiting a world class stadium. The PE team are strong advocates of providing students with as many opportunities as possible during theit time here at LBS. We hope to run a second trip next year so please look out for further information.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Trip
On Friday the 30th of January 2026, Mr Janes is delighted to announce the annual Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy experience. Students have the opportunity to train at the Wolverhampton training ground, participating in a session delivered by an academy coach. Students will then be transported over to the Wolverhampton stadium, they will receive a tour of the stadium. The tour consists of access to the changing rooms, the press room, the player tunnel and pitch side views. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a behind the scenes look of a professional club and to gain an insight into the daily life of a professional footballer.
These opportunities are such a great way to further enhance student experiences and allow them to consider how they can immerse themselves in extra-curricular provision and continue to grow and develop.

A Magical Day of Music with Ex Cathedra!
Last Friday, the Music Department was buzzing with energy as we welcomed Ex Cathedra for a full day of exciting workshops! We were delighted to host pupils from City Road Primary, St John’s and St Peter’s, and Our Lady of Fatima Primary, who joined our fantastic Year 7 students for a day packed with creativity and joy.
The department came alive with dancing, singing, and plenty of laughter—and it wasn’t just the students getting involved! Even some of our staff joined in the fun, making the day truly memorable.
To top it all off, our very own students took part in an after-school singing workshop, learning new skills, building confidence, and most importantly—having a great time!
A huge thank you to Mrs Greatrix and Miss Shergill for visiting and joining in the activities. And of course, our warmest thanks to Ex Cathedra for sharing their time, talent, and enthusiasm with us.
We look forward to welcoming you back for more musical magic later this academic year!
Exciting New Partnerships with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire!
We are delighted to announce that we are working with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on two fantastic projects this term—both offering our students incredible opportunities to grow as young musicians.
Soundlab Project at the Conservatoire
Every Monday, a group of our students travel to the Conservatoire to take part in an inspiring Soundlab project. Here, they collaborate with other young musicians and work closely with experienced lecturers to compose original music in a professional creative environment.
Collaborative Composition Project in School
In addition, two talented RBC lecturers visit our school every Friday after school to work with a group of 20 enthusiastic students. Together, they are developing a brand-new collaborative composition, exploring musical ideas, techniques, and creativity as a team.
We are incredibly proud of all the students involved and can’t wait to see their hard work showcased in our upcoming Winter Showcase.
