Performing Arts Curriculum Update

This week in Drama, our students have been learning how to create Silent Movies. The students have focused on performance skills, slapstick comedy and stock characters. During this current project, students have demonstrated excellent group skills, demonstrating our character virtue of the half-term 'RESPECT', and creativity when bringing their characters to life. We hope you enjoy the short video clip below and look forward to sharing more details regarding upcoming performances in the near future.

Y11 PARENT/CARER INFORMATION EVENT

To follow on from last weeks blog, I would like to remind Y11 parents/carers that on Tuesday next week we have our first Y11 information evening of the year. Thank you to those of you that have returned the reply slip. 

We look forward to seeing Year 11 parents at this very important event. 

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 2 October 2023

We also hosted six local Primary Schools last night as they competed in their Birmingham Regional Football League. The Schools that made the trip over were Woodhouse Primary, Welsh House Farm, St Mary's. Four Dwellings, St Catherine of Siena and Harborne Primary School. It was great to see so many Primary students enjoy our outstanding facilities and to compete at such a high level.

Health & Fitness

The students are really making the most of our Fitness Suite, we have had fantastic attendance at our morning, lunch and after School sessions. The students are continuously developing their knowledge around how to maximise the equipment and how to vary their routines. Students are also using the facility during their Health Unit during PE lessons, it is great to see so many of them coming in their own time.

Year 7 Football

This week saw a busy week of Year 7 Football. The students competed in their first ever competitive match for Lordswood, and they did not disappoint. A 5-0 win over Bishop Challoner in the first round of the West Midlands Cup made it an excellent start to the season. Ahmad Kunu was the stand our performer with five goals and an all round top performance. The boys will also host Priory School later today in the First Round of the Birmingham Schools' Cup.

MATCH REPORT - By Mr Rauf, Y7 Team Coach

Never an easy task, nor an easy fixture when it comes to playing Bishop Challoner. Traditionally a well oiled and physical machine, they were in for a huge surprise when they came up against the might, and rather diminutive looking year 7's yesterday.

A game that was shortened due a combination of mishaps and delays, we eventually got going at 4.25pm. Tentative at first, the first half ended in a perfect chess-styled stalemate. Some context: the Year 7's had ONE training/trial session last week, where believe it or not, around 50 boys turned up all hopeful of making the final squad. 

The team talk before the game and during half time was the same - 'stick to your positions boys and don't give an inch! Cover your man and stay strong.' At 0 - 0 it could have gone either way. But when a few positions were tweaked, and Hamza Boutoutaou was moved to a wide, forward position - it all changed. And dramatically might I add. Hamza scored all 5 goals, - yes, ALL FIVE. And goals that any pro footballer would have been proud of. A shame they weren't caught on camera. We did hear one of the oppo players, who being rather miffed at having to mark Hamza, remarked 'He's too good'. He was. Think of a Birmingham born Messi and Mo Salah rolled into one; but with the cheek, guile and modesty of a Lordswood PE teacher. That's Hamza.

Challoner went away a little jaded, and their 'hip hip hooray' at the end was equally jaded. Just a note - and this was reiterated during the post-match debrief; the whole team played magnificently, led by their talismanic yet unassuming captain Ahmed Kunu, and the marauding and bulldozer in defence that is Omar Taesan - all agreed that the goals Hamza scored would not have come had others not done their job well.

Well done Tanaka, Samyar, Alialmurtaja, Khaliq, An Khang, Mustafa, Ahmed K, Hamza B, Emanuel, Layth, Aiden, M Manseray, Kiyan, Abulay, Dorian.

Year 11 Football

The Year 11 team started their campaign as they travelled over to the Birmingham Schools' Champions, Arthur Terry, on Tuesday for a Round One fixture. The boys battled hard but came away with a defeat, despite the result, the students were a credit as they displayed resilience and tenacity in their performance. The boys are back in action next Thursday as we host a Regional Tournament that involves Harborne Academy, Bournville, Kings Norton Boys' and Dame Elizabeth.
