There are five lakes that make up the Great Lakes. Lake Michigan is the most well known lake it is also the only Great Lake completely inside the United States.The area is 22,394 square miles and the Max Depth is 923 ft. Lake Superior is also one of the great lakes it is the largest and deepest of the five the area is 31,700 square miles and the max depth is 1,333 ft (406 m). Lake Ontario is the smallest of the lakes the area is 7,320 square miles and the max depth is 802 ft (244 m). Lake Erie is the shallowest. The Area is 9,940 square miles and the max depth is 210 ft (64m). Lake Huron has the longest shoreline. The area is 23,012 square miles and the max depth is 750 ft (229 m). The Great Lakes affect the surrounding climate. In summer they absorb a lot of heat in the summer, making for a cooler summer. In the winter they cause a lot of heat making for a warmer winter. The Great Lakes also affect the affect the economy and lots of people like to fish there. The Great Lakes are a big part of the Midwest!
