A content filter is software designed to restrict or control the content a reader is authorized to access. Content-control software determines what content will be available or perhaps more often what content will be blocked. To protect the students of this district, we uphold the standards outlined by the Children's Internet Protection Act or CIPA.
In District 5, we use Cisco Umbrella to control the content delivered to every computer according to the CIPA guidelines. In some cases Teachers have been granted access to additional websites that will remain restricted for students. Our Internet Acceptable Use Agreement and content filter choice addresses the following issues:
Access by minors to inappropriate matter on the Internet and World Wide Web
The safety and security of minors when using electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications
Measures designed to restrict minors' access to materials harmful to minors
