When we approach any holiday season, whether it be holiday breaks, long summer break or a short spring break, please keep in mind the procedures for dealing with technology items before leaving for long periods of time.
Turn off AND unplug All Computerized Equipment.
Monitors - “Sleeping” monitors (amber lights) still draw power!
External or monitor-attached speakers (They don’t “sleep!”)
Desktops
Laptops (That are not being taken home.)
Chromebooks
Any printers/copiers that are located in or around your area.
Televisions and VCR/DVD players
Staplers, pencil sharpeners, adding machines - These have transformers and capacitors inside that draw power even when they’re NOT sharpening, etc.
Laminators, craft machines, copiers
Personal appliances in offices/classrooms – radios, lamps, decorations, etc
Turn off All Other Equipment (Do not unplug.)
Projectors - “Sleeping” projectors draw as much power as a computer left on!
Power down Interactive Panels
Brightsign TVs (Do Not unplug the Brightsign box.)
Chargers for two-way radios, cell phones, etc. (unless actively charging devices). These “fat plugs” are also little transformers that draw power even if there’s no device connected!
Science classrooms with Science ventilation hoods should be turned off.
Technology Notes
Do NOT turn off any network equipment (servers, access points, etc.) that are in the classroom on and running.
Do NOT turn off the box behind the TVs that run BrightSign!
