Applying the Golden Ratio to typography
The golden ratio (1:1.618) creates a harmonious, mathematically balanced text hierarchy by multiplying or dividing base font sizes. Using a 1.618 ratio, you can determine heading sizes by multiplying the body text size, or establish spacing by dividing the line height. This method ensures consistent, professional, and readable proportions.
Multiply your base body font size by to determine the next level up, such as subheaders, e.g.:
12pt x 1,618 = 19,416pt ≈ 20pt
12pt – 20pt – 32pt – 52pt
