KS3
Years 7, 8 & 9 have been continuing to build on and develop a strong understanding of the history of art during modules 3 & 4; further expanding their knowledge and understanding of where art sits within an historical context.
Students have developed their skills through the exploration of oil pastel, acrylic paint, colour theory, mark-making and printmaking!
Year 7
In M3 & M4 Year 7 studied Impressionism and Post-impressionism; they have built on their knowledge of mark-making and used fleeting marks to capture light.
Their knowledge of Post-impressionism is informing the curation of a personal still life set up and acrylic painting.
Examples of Year 7 Art Work
Over the last module we have been asking students to develop an understanding of photography by setting homework's. A great example of foreground, middle ground and background in this photographic response.
Year 8
Research
In M3 Year 8 developed exceptional Art Deco prints; they really understood how to move creatively from an initial idea to a resolved outcome.
They worked thoughtfully to reflect their knowledge of the period by creating a wallpaper design for Eltham Palace.

Year 8 American Modernism
During M4 we have been responding to the theme of change; students are reflecting on their relationship to the local environment through painted responses to American Modernism.
Based on our community, these responses allow students to build on prior knowledge of acrylic painting and master the application of tints, tones and shades of colour.
Year 9
Year 9 Fauvism

Year 10
Year 10 Fine Art
Our GCSE Fine Artist have been focusing on experimental and experimental mark-making. Lots of expressive drawing has underpinned exploratory paintings and responses…
Year 10 Photography
Our Photography students experimented with collage, cutting, stitching and Photoshop - working towards outcomes based on their theme of Distortion.
Year 10 Artist Workshop
Year 10 Fine Artists and Photographers also had an opportunity to take part in a workshop based on Terrestrial Act III, an installation by Thameside Studios.
The artists who facilitated the workshop were fantastic; Neena and Lizzy led a virtual session in which the students used clay to create distorted, surreal landscapes. They then carefully curated the lighting to create photographs of a fantasy landscape.
"In photography, this module, we had a workshop based on creating sci fi like extra-terrestrial landscapes, with clay and taking photos of our final outcomes, centring it around the theme of Distortion.
I personally found it difficult at first to come up with an idea as the topic of sci fi is so broad. However, the instructors Neena and Lizzy gave us examples and showed us where and how to start, which gave me a starting point to create my clay landscape. Through the workshop I learnt that the perspective and the background of an image really affects the way the image can be perceived; for example when I took a picture from below, the structure gave off a dominating, superior feeling; but when I took a picture from above the structure demonstrated a fragile desert-like landscape. This really made me consider the perspective in which I take photos of a set subject to help convey the feeling I want the viewer to feel.
Towards the end of the workshop I began to find the workshop fun, it was invigorating to be able to combine two subdivisions of art and create one piece."

America in Crisis Trip
We were delighted to offer our photography students a trip to The Saatchi Gallery to visit the America in Crisis photography exhibition. They partook in a workshop that…
The trip was designed to encourage students to engage with the arts, culture and contemporary issues. We hope it supports their ideas for their GCSE Photography portfolios and allows them to engage in and reflect on contemporary photographic practice.
Year 9 Arts Enrichment - CCA Trip!
We are delighted to offer The Arts Enrichment students a trip to Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art to visit the gallery and partake in a workshop run by Trish Scott.
The trip was designed to encourage students to engage with contemporary art, culture and the local community.
KS3 Art Club
Year 9 Arts Enrichment
The Arts Enrichment Programme (Year 9) started in M3 and was offered to a selection of Y9 students. We are exploring site-specific work, contemporary art and ecology.
Students are creating Bug and Insect hotels - we are thankful to the STEAM team who supported the designs of our hotels this module.
We are working alongside Goldsmiths Centre of Contemporary Arts and Ms Henri Crook supports the delivery of the programme.

Staff Well-being
At the end of M3 the staff at LAB came together for a well-being session ran by the Visual Arts team - there were some wonderful objects made but more importantly - the process of making was just lovely.
