Careers at LAB
We have had lots of exciting careers content delivered this term at LAB. The Design and Technology department kicked off module 3 with a DT careers week, with the students researching a variety of STEM roles linked to Design and Technology and interviewed a number of guest speakers throughout the week from architects, product designers, business owners and graphic designers.
National Careers Week took place from 7th March to 11th March. Students across all year groups used this week to optimise their experience using Unifrog. They researched job roles within a variety of subject areas at the start of each lesson as well as utilised a range of tools in tutor time using the Unifrog platform. A virtual careers fair hosted by National Careers Week also took place on Wednesday 9th March with exhibitors from across a range of sectors including finance, health, education and civil service.
There have been some specific events for some year groups during Module 4. Year 9 have had bespoke sessions on how to write an effective CV delivered to them by external speakers. This initial first step in understanding what recruiters are looking for helped students reflect on what IB Learner profile attributes they have as strengths and what they need to develop in the coming years.
We also had our first exciting ‘Pathways To Your Future’ day. Y10 students were exposed to the different pathways available after KS5. Various speakers and workshops ran throughout the day informing students about universities, apprenticeships and a range of professional industries. Speakers who have worked within the creative industries, finance and technology gave pupils a flavour of their pathway to their current career. Students were encouraged to wear business attire to mirror the ethos of the day and engaged in reflective tasks about their future. It was amazing to see students looking professional while taking their next steps seriously.
