Parents Forum
Our Parents Forums this term have been an opportunity to enhance links between home and school, giving parents and carers a better understanding of their child’s education. We seek the views of parents in order to develop stronger partnerships.
This term, we have held two Parents Forums where we have discussed the Middle Years Programme and Data, Assessment & Reports at LAB.
Miss Garcia led an excellent Parents’ Forum on the MYP - Middle Years Programme. Given Covid restrictions, the Forum took place online and was well attended by a range of parents and guardians across all year groups. Miss Garcia shared information about the key aspects of the programme and the rationale for delivering it at LAB, as it directly relates to our ethos and vision for our students.
We were joined by Ms Fairs, STEAM Lead, Ms Clarke, Head of Visual Arts, and Mr Smith, Director of Learning for Science. They all explained how the MYP is implemented in their curriculum area and the benefits it brings to the students' learning and development.
Parents commented very positively on the impact the IBMYP framework has on their own child’s personal and academic development. Parents mentioned that they had noticed the difference between their own experience at school and how the LAB curriculum is shaping their child in a holistic manner, in regards to their world knowledge, their approaches to learning and their general preparedness for life.
Mr Ritchie led the second forum this term on Data and Assessment, in particular the format of assessments within the MYP. Assessment plays a crucial role in supporting, as well as measuring, learning. The MYP approach to assessment also recognizes the crucial role of providing students with effective feedback.
On Monday 9th May 2022, our Parents Forum will focus on Online Safety. We have recently become a National Online Safety certified school. Daniel Bull, Head of Digital Engagement at Leigh Academies Trust and also a LAB parent will be leading the Forum on safeguarding children online.
