During this unit students explored the relationship among the elements of an ecosystem, how the ecosystem supports its inhabitants, and how it is impacted by external forces.
Our unit understandings included:
An ecosystem is a community of living organisms in conjunction with the non-living components of their environment, interacting as a system.
An ecosystem is a complex set of relationships among plants, animals, and the people in their habitats.
Changing one element of an ecosystem, either by natural or human forces, impacts the whole system.
Damage to an ecosystem may cause the disappearance of plants and animals.
