During this unit students examined how laws are enacted and enforced in response to society’s need to protect social order and individual rights.
Our unit understandings included:
U.S. Laws are created in response to a need to establish social order and/or protect individual rights.
The three-branch system of government described in the U.S. Constitution was developed to create checks and balances.
The U.S. has a system in place for creating, amending, interpreting, and enforcing laws.
Court procedures are designed to insure all parties receive a fair trial.
