Challenge is a course designed for students who have been identified for the Gifted and Talented program in Katy ISD and have demonstrated an educational need for services beyond what the general education classroom setting provides. The Katy ISD Challenge program services students who qualify for gifted and talented in grades K-5. We cover a total of 15 units of study over the course of five years, this way children will never repeat a unit of study in their elementary years in Challenge. Each year the units fall under a theme to encourage connections across disciplines. Each unit lasts about 10 weeks and students receive ratings on a report card. The Challenge program is not about providing harder math/reading, etc., instead it focuses on providing instruction about new topics and applies all subjects to the learning.
Our units of study include:
Change - Meteorology, Fine Arts, Chemistry
Innovation - Technology, Medicine, Law
Patterns - Geological Forces, Cranial Connections, Oceanography
Exploration - Astronomy, Archaeology, Architecture
Systems - Ecosystems, Economics, Energy
We would like to encourage all families to join KPGT - Katy Parents of Gifted and Talented Students. You can visit https://www.kpgt.org/ for membership information.
